Dr. Craig Chen began blogging as a young high school student in Orange County, California. He parlayed his writing talents into a minor in creative writing at Stanford University, while also double majoring in philosophy and biology.
While in college, Dr. Chen witnessed the rise of social media and saw firsthand its power to reach large audiences from every corner of the globe. When he attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), he decided to create a journal blog to capture the experience and transformation of becoming a physician. As readers began following and commenting on the blog, he realized what a useful tool it was for the patient, family member and layperson to understand the culture and inner-workings of medicine.
Dr. Chen finished his anesthesiology residency at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. He is currently doing subspecialty training with a fellowship in critical care medicine, also at Stanford.
